The Daily Star dropped by 500 retailers

The Daily Star has been delisted by an estimated 500 independent retailers after its decision in June to cut the margin retailers would keep by 1.21p

Unaudited figures report that 500 of the 35,000 independent retailers across England and Wales will no longer carry Richard Desmond's newspaper due to the margin cut, but the drop is expected to have minimal impact following the halving of The Daily Star's cover price from 20p to 10p.

The slashed cover price was a move to increase newspaper circulation, and one industry insider predicts that the resultant rise in circulation will offset the circulation drop seen due to the delisting.

News International decreased retailer's margins for The Sun by 1.16p per copy last year after reducing the newspaper's cover price, but retailers continued to stock the title because of The Sun's regular circulation figures nearing three million.
