Capital gets new London Weekly freesheet
The London Weekly has launched, though many were unable to find Global Publishing Group's city-centric newspaper
The 32 page full-colour title, with its tagline as "the light hearted paper for light hearted Londoners", began with a front page story about Prime Minister Gordon Brown helping to launch London Wasps' annual St George's Day game. The front cover is also double-dated, confirming it will be distributed on both Friday and Saturday.
Page three is reserved for a half page Q&A-style interview, debuting with former England cricketer Phil Tufnell discussing quitting smoking, while other editorial sections included Music News, Going Out and Sports Round up.
Advertisers include a page of classified recruitment ads, promotions for West End shows and display ads for SeaFrance, The Big Snow Festival and Southern Comfort. Plus, an in-house ad suggests a property listings will be introduced at a later stage.
The newspaper is claiming its distribution will reach 250,000, with a readership of more than 1.5 million. However, many have said it was hard to find, with copies only available at a selection of stations in zones one and two.
John Leitch, executive director of Metro, who couldn’t find a copy, said: "The fact that it's so hard to get hold of speaks volumes and makes for an interesting business proposition."
