Wogan up, Wossy down
Jonathan Ross, who will leave BBC in the summer, has seen a dip in his listening figures for his BBC Radio 2 show, while Terry Wogan exits on listening-figure high, according to Rajar figures
Ross's Saturday show, which is now pre-recorded after the controversy of Sachsgate, had an average weekly reach of 2.94 million listeners in the last quarter of 2009, a decline compared to the 3.08 million it had in the last three months of 2008 when many of the programmes were guest hosted during Ross’s three-month suspension.
Last quarter’s figures were up on the previous quarter’s 2.92 million, though it is more than half a million fewer listeners than the 3.5 million who tuned into his Saturday morning Radio 2 show at the end of 2004.
In his last three months hosting BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Sir Terry Wogan equalled his best-ever audience of 8.1 million listeners. However, Chris Evans, who has taken over Wogan’s breakfast timeslot, shed 110,000 listeners in the last three months of his Radio 2 drive time show, averaging 5.29 million listeners, down from 5.4 million in the previous three months.
