Distinction between home TV and PC 'increasingly blurred' 16 April 2009 11:40
The distinction between the traditional television set and the home computer will become "increasingly blurred", it is believed.
Brian Turner, executive director of Techwatch.co.uk, stated: "Both are just a box of electronics with a display monitor, but the services once exclusive to TV broadcasting are fast becoming an integral part of internet use."
He said it is expected that the internet will play a key role in the home as a media centre in its own right.
TV and video broadcasting will not decline as such, Mr Turner commented, but rather how they are received is evolving.
According to a recent study by Microsoft, if current trends continue the internet will overtake traditional TV as the most consumed form of media in June 2010.
In addition, the software giant found that TV will become a two-way connected experience being delivered via broadband to multiple screens.
